Tōseibo is a Copenhagen-based ceramic studio that specializes in tea ware, coffee ware, eating ware, and design objects. Longfei Wang, a Chinese-born Danish multi-artist, is the person behind the studio. He has a background in classical music, and has worked as a visual storyteller for over a decade. He is passionate about the traditional East Asian culture and Scandinavian aesthetics, which are the foundation for his ceramic making.
Under the influence of mingei movement 民芸 in Japan for reviving the Japanese folk art, he believes that there is beauty in everyday object and art is in our everyday life. This is also the rationale for him to specialise in making functional ware.
At tōsei, every ceramic piece is thrown on the wheel and applied with distinctive glazes that the artist himself has developed. Although each object is designed with an intention, Longfei believes that its shape and form is born out of a dialogue with the clay through a meditative throwing process.
